Volkswagen is diving headfirst into the ever-competitive battery-electric midsize SUV segment with the sleek and stylish ID.5. The ID.5 shares the same platform as the ID.4, though it aims to impress buyers looking for more of a coupe-shaped styling package at the rear that gives it a unique and charismatic appeal. The ID.5 is offered here in Australia in Pro and GTX variants, with the ID.5 Pro range coming powered by a rear-mounted electric motor that produces 210kW of power and 545Nm of torque, offering a 0-100km/h sprint in 6.7 seconds. Stepping up to the ID.5 GTX performance flagship adds another electric motor into the mix, with 250kW of power and 679Nm of torque sent to all four wheels for a 5.4-second sprint to 100km/h. Both versions come powered by a 77kWh battery offering between 528 - 543km of range, with a very healthy 549L worth of boot space inside that raked rear end, meaning the ID.5 is equal parts stylish and practical with great on-road handling.
