The 2021 Skoda Scala launch edition was off to a slow launch after a few delays by the manufacturer, however from what we’ve seen it’s worth the wait and a worthy contender in the hatchback market. We love the Scala’s tech, clever innovations and design differentiating it a little from other small hatches in market.
Inside the cabin, the Scala makes really good use to space to keep things clean however still very modern. The driver has access to a virtual cockpit, a full digital dash that can be used for navigation as well as the usual speed, revs and fuel control. This is a really nice addition to a compact hatch but works well on the Scala.
The car also features modern practicalities that may not seem like a big deal until you need them. Just made it to work in your new dress or suit and it starts pouring down rain on the way? Not a problem, the Scala has an umbrella that lives in the driver’s door. Perhaps you need to top up your windscreen washer fluid but don’t have a funnel handy? The Scala has a built-in windscreen washer funnel. There are also features like luggage hooks in the boot and double-sided boot mats.
Of course, there are more important things that really count like safety and engine power. In these areas the Skoda Scala performs well with a turbo charged 1.5l engine, and a range of safety features including blind spot monitoring, lane assist and emergency braking. Always looking to assist the driver, the Scala has a handy feature called ‘fatigue detection’ which based on the movements through the steering wheel, will trigger audible and visual warnings to the driver if it thinks you need to take a break.
Overall a great car, and one worth taking for a test drive, especially for the driver who wants a modern car that drives well and is after a car that is suited to the little practicalities in life.
