The Mazda CX-60 is one of the company’s latest midsize SUV packages designed to showcase a more premium direction for the brand.

Sitting as the smallest member of Mazda’s new large SUV lineup, the CX-60 aims to win buyers over with its sleek design, powerful engine lineup and lavish interiors as the company eyes off a new set of rivals.

The CX-60 certainly has its work cut out to impress midsize SUV buyers, though looks poised to tackle established and new-found competitors thanks to Mazda’s new large SUV architecture, lavish interiors in Azami form and some major technological leaps for the rest of the range.

Just how well does the Mazda CX-60 stack up as a practical, family-friendly SUV, then and which is the pick of the bunch? Let’s take a closer look to find out.

Mazda CX-60 Connectivity & Infotainment Features

The entry-level CX-60 Evolve picks up a 10.25-inch infotainment system sitting atop the dashboard.

It’s a neatly-packaged display that is bright, responsive and easy to use via Mazda’s rotary controller and a user-friendly menu layout, though the screen acreage itself isn’t outstanding considering the price point.

The CX-60 Evolve’s 10.25-inch infotainment system is packaged with AM/FM & DAB+ digital radio as well as satellite navigation and is paired with an eight-speaker sound system that sounds great.

Buyers upgrading to the CX-60 GT pick up a larger 12.3-inch display that is much more competitive in the segment and offers touch inputs while you’re using Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

The added screen real estate is accompanied by an upgraded 12-speaker sound system courtesy of BOSE that will come as music to the ears of audiophiles.

Does the Mazda CX-60 Have Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?

Potential buyers will be pleased to hear that all members of the Mazda CX-60 lineup receive wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto connectivity.

Whether you’re going for the base model with the 10.25-inch display or the larger 12.3-inch unit, Mazda’s latest infotainment systems offer wireless connectivity for both Android and iOS ecosystems.

Is the Mazda CX-60 Comfortable to Drive?

The most surprising aspect of the CX-60 on the road is just how sporty it feels.

It certainly shows that family-friendly motoring need not be a bland, boring affair, though it does come with some detraction from the daily driving experience.

Before we get into that, let’s talk about Mazda’s three engine options for the CX-60.

2025 mazda cx-60 off-road

There’s a choice of two 3.3-litre turbocharged inline-six cylinder units, one petrol and one diesel, both of which pick up a 48V mild-hybrid system.

The CX-60 in G40e petrol form pushes out 209kW of power and 450Nm of torque, while the CX-60 D50e produces 187kW of power and 500Nm of torque.

There’s also a CX-60 plug-in hybrid that pairs a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol with an electric motor, producing a combined 241kW of power and 500Nm of torque.

All variants push out power to Mazda’s rear-biassed all-wheel drive system via an eight-speed automatic transmission that offers slick shifts.

Translated from automotive jargon, the CX-60 has an exciting engine lineup that seemingly bucks the downsizing trend and over-delivers on the power front, meaning there’s no shortage of acceleration off the line.

Around town, the CX-60’s steering is well-weighted, remaining light while parking and offering some feedback as you pick up the pace.

The suspension package sits on the firmer side, which means that the CX-60 is a pleasure to drive in the corners, though doesn’t soak up bumps around town with as much cushioning as you might expect for the midsize SUV segment.

In a nutshell, the CX-60 is an exciting and surprisingly dynamic midsize SUV package that remains user-friendly around town and excellent on a long-distance drive - so long as the road surface is smooth.

Is it Fuel Efficient?

With three engines on offer, fuel economy figures range from extremely efficient in the P50e plug-in hybrid and D50e diesel engine options, while the G40e petrol doesn’t mind a drink.

On a combined cycle, the CX-60 petrol range is rated at 7.4L per 100km, with the CX-60 diesel sipping just 4.9L per 100km.

If you’re looking for the most fuel-efficient CX-60 variant, the P50e is certainly worth a closer inspection, with fuel economy figures of just 2.1L per 100km so long as the battery is charged.

The CX-60 PHEV also offers 76km of all-electric range thanks to its 17.8kWh battery pack.

  • CX-60 G40e Petrol Fuel Economy: 7.4L/100km

  • CX-60 D50e Diesel Fuel Economy: 4.9L/100km

  • CX-60 P50e PHEV Fuel Economy: 2.1L/100km

Is it Practical and Spacious?

Mazda’s interior designs and the CX-60’s large footprint culminate in a wonderful cabin up front, even in the base model.

As we’ve mentioned, Mazda is hoping to move toward increasingly premium rivals with the CX-60 and we can report that it’s a rock-solid package with looks and feels that ooze quality.

Climb aboard and you’ll find there’s no shortage of headroom for tall drivers with solid forward and side visibility made possible by the lofty roofline.

Ergonomics are also great thanks to the rake and reach adjustable steering wheel and some soft-touch finishes where your elbows and knees land on a long trip, while the switchgear feels quality, too.

Poke and prod your hands around the cabin and it’s near impossible to find any cheap textiles, with even the dashboard picking up a nice, soft & squidgy finish.

Storage options are solid, but not game-changing for the midsize SUV segment.

The CX-60’s bulky centre console houses a pair of cupholders that can be hidden away, a storage tray that doubles as a wireless charger at the base of the dash and a relatively shallow bin underneath the split-fold armrest.

For its size, we might have hoped for a few more storage options in the front of the CX-60 though, at the very least, it’s got the fundamentals covered.

Move to the rear and things are nice and spacious for rear occupants, with no shortage of knee or headroom for adults, though once again, it’s not a segment leader.

You can comfortably accommodate adults in the rear, though considering just how large the CX-60’s footprint is, you might be expecting a little more in terms of second row space.

That said, parents will love how wide the doors open, making it an easy process to install a child seat via the two pairs of ISOFIX anchors and three top tether mounts, with two USB-C ports, air vents and a folding armrest waiting on hand.

How Big is the Mazda CX-60’s Boot?

The CX-60 offers a solid amount of boot space to keep up with Aussie families.

With the rear seats standing in a five-seater format, there’s 477L worth of boot space which is a solid figure, but once again, not outstanding in the world of family-friendly midsize SUVs.

There’s also a side pocket with netting to help keep smaller, loose items from rolling around and some added under-floor storage.

Fold down the 40-20-40 split rear seats and you’ll unlock 1,726L worth of cargo space when it’s time to lug around large objects and sports gear, though the seats don’t fold completely flat.

All up, the CX-60’s boot looks more than ready for the family test, though it’s not the most capacious on the market.

  • CX-60 Boot Space Minimum: 477L

  • CX-60 Boot Space Maximum: 1,726L

Is it Safe?

The Mazda CX-60 range is exceptionally safe thanks to its solid build quality and impressive active safety equipment lists which are included in all members of the lineup, including the entry-level CX-60 Evolve.

As standard, the CX-60 range picks up forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking with both pedestrian and cyclist detection and junction assist, as well as adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, adaptive cruise control, forward obstruction warnings, lane-keep assist, a rear-view camera with front & rear parking sensors and tyre pressure monitoring.

Step up to the range-topping CX-60 Azami and you’ll receive a surround-view camera, cruising & traffic support, driver attention monitoring and front cross-traffic alerts.

Does the Mazda CX-60 Have an ANCAP Safety Rating?

The Mazda CX-60 has been awarded ANCAP’s maximum five-star safety rating after testing in 2022.

  • Adult Occupant Protection: 91%

What Warranty does the Mazda CX-60 Come With?

Mazda offers the CX-60 range with a five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty alongside capped-price servicing for five years.

Capped price servicing costs for the G40e petrol total $2,881 over the course of five visits to the shop floor.

2025 mazda cx-60 doors

This makes it the second-cheapest engine to service, behind the P50e plug-in hybrid powertrain but considerably cheaper than the D50e turbo-diesel.

Five-year servicing costs for all three CX-60 engine options can be found below.

  • G40e Five-Year Servicing Cost: $2,881

  • D50e Five-Year Servicing Cost: $3,217

  • P50e Five-Year Servicing Cost: $2,590

Our Verdict: Is the Mazda CX-60 Worth it?

The Mazda CX-60 is a solid midsize SUV option for families looking for a sporty, well-equipped and practical package, though some variants make far more sense than others.

2025 mazda cx-60 exterior

As per usual with Mazda, the interior designs are fantastic and the CX-60’s eager driving dynamics took us by surprise, but we appreciate the company’s recipe for a more engaging, family-friendly package.

Considering the price premium of the CX-60 PHEV, we think the D50e strikes a very healthy blend of fuel-efficiency at a reasonable price, with the entry-level Evolve trim holding up well on equipment.

For those willing to stretch, the GT range is so well-equipped that it makes the Azami feel almost like overkill, with the CX-60 GT D50e sitting as our preferred pick of the range.
