Ford’s latest Tourneo marks a bold return to the people-mover segment.

Based on the almighty Ford Transit, the Tourneo is billed as the company's most family-friendly package to date thanks to its massive, work-based platform that offers up a practical eight-seat layout.

Ford hasn't offered a dedicated people mover here in Australia for decades, with the Tourneo tasked with squaring off against some of the biggest names in the segment, though its Transit-based skeleton certainly puts it on the front foot when it comes to practicality.

Just how well does the Ford Tourneo perform as a family-friendly people mover, then, and how does it stack up against the best in the family segment? Let's take a closer look to find out.

What Features Does the Ford Tourneo Have?

Ford's entry-level Tourneo Active comes riding on a set of 17-inch alloys and picks up LED head & tail lights alongside LED daytime running lamps, adaptive cruise control, power-sliding rear doors, cloth and leatherette upholstery with heated front seats, an 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster, tri-zone climate control, track-based second and third row seating, a wireless charging pad and a rear-view camera with a 180-degree view.

Upgrading to the Tourneo Titanium X adds premium 17-inch alloys, upgraded Sensico leatherette upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, a panoramic sunroof and a surround-view monitor.

Ford Tourneo Connectivity & Infotainment Features

The Ford Tourneo makes a great first impression on the technology front.

Dominating the dashboard is a massive 13-inch touchscreen display mounted in a landscape orientation which, combined with the digital instrument cluster gives the Tourneo a particularly modern feel for the segment.

The display is bright and super responsive thanks to Ford's latest Sync4 operating system underneath, allowing you to trawl through menus without any lag.

    2025 ford tourneo connectivity

There's AM/FM and DAB+ digital radio thrown into the mix, with a lovely ten-speaker sound system in the entry-level Active that makes way for an upgraded Bang & Olufsen unit in the Titanium X.

You also pick up an embedded 5G modem inside the Tourneo which gives you access to remote vehicle tracking, connected navigation, vehicle health alerts and remote vehicle controls.

Fordpass itself is a free service to use, though some features are reserved behind a paid subscription, with a one-year trial bundled in for Tourneo buyers.

Does the Ford Tourneo Have Wireless Apple CarPlay & Android Auto?

Buyers will be pleased to know that the Tourneo offers wireless smartphone mirroring for both iOS and Android devices.

Thanks to its latest-generation infotainment system, the Tourneo's 13-inch display can be paired wirelessly with your iPhone or Android device in order to access wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Combine that with the Tourneo's wireless charging pad and you can simply climb aboard, charge your phone or leave it in your pocket while accessing your preferred navigation apps, podcasts, music and contacts.

Is the Ford Tourneo Comfortable to Drive?

The Ford Tourneo is a more civilised package overall than its Transit-based skeleton would suggest.

That said, it’s not the most refined in the segment due to its more work-related platform underneath, but it's a very approachable package for families and transport companies alike.

Both versions come powered by a lovely turbo-diesel engine that gives the Tourneo decent poke off the line.

The Tourneo's 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel kicks out 125kW of power and 390Nm of torque, which is channelled to the front wheels via a slick eight-speed automatic transmission.

    2025 ford tourneo off-road

The turbo-diesel unit sounds a little agricultural on a cold start and can be a little thrashy inside the cabin when really pushed, though overall, it's a workhorse of an engine that offers a healthy slice of torque.

There's 854kg worth of payload on offer, with towing capacity figures standing at 2,500kg, which makes it a seriously versatile package when loaded up or hauling around a caravan.

To keep it approachable for families, Ford has made some tweaks to ensure that, around town, the Tourneo is reasonably well-mannered for such a large package.

The Tourneo’s steering, for example, is lighter than you'd expect for such a substantial footprint with a commercial-based platform, which makes it quite approachable in the tight confines of a car park.

On the handling front, the Tourneo's top-heavy design does translate to some body roll in the corners, though Ford has done well to keep things in check.

With its independent rear suspension package, the Tourneo offers a more refined ride than a strictly cargo-hauling package, though the firm suspension package does make things feel a bit stiff over some sharper bumps in town.

Pick up the pace and the Tourneo's firm suspension package makes it feel a little unsettled on rougher country roads, though we suspect that when fully loaded, the ride quality would improve dramatically.

On the highway, the Tourneo is happy to overtake when needed, though the large, protruding wing mirrors kick up some wind noise at higher speeds.

Overall, the Ford Tourneo is a well-mannered and versatile people mover that makes great use of its cargo-hauling skeleton, illustrated by its robust payload and towing figures, while remaining more than user-friendly enough to be a daily, family chariot.

    Is it Fuel Efficient?

Ford's turbo-diesel beating heart is reasonably fuel-efficient for such a large package.

The company says the Tourneo drinks 7.4L per 100km on a combined cycle.

This makes the Tourneo slightly thirstier than the Kia Carnival diesel range, which is rated at 6.5L per 100km but remains more efficient than the Hyundai Staria diesel range.

The Tourneo has a 70L fuel tank and requires AdBlue.

Combined Cycle Fuel Economy: 7.4L per 100km

    Is it Practical and Spacious?

You bet it is - it's palatial inside.

There's so much space, in fact, that in other markets around the globe, Ford offers the Tourneo as a nine-seater.

For the Australian market, though, the Tourneo is offered exclusively as an eight-seater package that makes light work of families or sits perfectly positioned as a commercial people carrier thanks to its clever, flexible seating design.

Up front, the Tourneo’s driving position is much more van-like than something like the Carnival's SUV-like cabin.

This means you climb up into the cabin and benefit from tonnes of forward and side visibility that come with the nicely elevated throne.

Even with this high-riding driving position, there’s a generous amount of headroom that means tall drivers or front passengers won't have a problem getting comfortable up front.

The Tourneo’s utilitarian nature extends to the individual captain's chairs up front, with a gap between them, and the layout of the dashboard and its storage options.

There's a centre console bin that pokes out from the dash and offers a pair of cupholders, a rubber-lined tray and a substantial amount of storage inside the bin underneath.

The Tourneo's cabin really kicks into gear when you enter the rear of the cabin, which offers acres of space for families.

    2025 ford tourneo rear seats

Step inside and you'll find three individual seats rather than a single bench that sit on a seat of rails.

This allows you to configure each of the seats to your needs and preferences, or remove the inside seat for easy access into the third row of the cabin.

The middle seat also has a set of cup holders and a flat storage tray built into the seatback that unlocks some versatility when folded flat.

Speaking of the third row, things are spacious in the rearmost part of the cabin, with the Tourneo's generous wheelbase platform proving itself a very practical package.

For the parents out there, the Tourneo's second row features three separate ISOFIX anchors with top tether mounts on the seatback, with another ISOFIX mount in the third row bringing its total capacity to four.

All up, the Tourneo is a seriously practical people mover thanks to its lengthy Transit-based platform and some clever interior designs that allow you to configure a setup perfect for your family.

How Big is the Ford Tourneo's Boot?

As you might imagine, the Tourneo's boot is massive and more than up to the family challenge.

The rear seats fold nice and flat, sliding forward considerably to unlock even more boot capacity when needed.

In an eight-seat layout, the Tourneo’s boot measures a very healthy 672L, matching what's on offer in the segment hero, Kia Carnival, when it comes to boot space with eight seats deployed.

    2025 ford tourneo boot

Slide the rear seats forward and there's 1,045L worth of cargo capacity on offer, while removing the third row entirely unlocks 2,102L worth of real estate.

Slide the second row seats forward and there's 2,408L for you to play with, not to mention the fact you can lift the second row seats out completely and benefit from 4,683L worth of cargo-ferrying space.

    • Tourneo Eight-Seat Boot Space Minimum: 672L

    • Tourneo Eight-Seat Boot Space Maximum: 1,045L

    • Tourneo Five-Seat Boot Space Minimum: 2,102L

    • Tourneo Five-Seat Boot Space Maximum: 2,408L

    • Tourneo Boot Space Maximum: 4,683L

    Is it Safe?

The Ford Tourneo hits the ground running with a solid list of safety equipment.

All Tourneo variants pick up forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking with junction assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alerts, lane-keep assistance, adaptive cruise control, safe exit warnings and a rear-view camera with a 180-degree field of view and both front & rear parking sensors.

A surround-view monitor is reserved for the more premium Tourneo Titanium X.

The latest-generation Ford Tourneo range is yet to be officially tested by ANCAP and remains unrated.

What Warranty does the Ford Tourneo Come With?

Ford offers the Tourneo with a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty.

    2025 ford tourneo doors

Buyers also pick up five years' worth of capped price servicing, with the total coming to $3,695 over the course of five visits.

Service intervals for the Ford Tourneo stand at a lengthy 12 months or 30,000 kilometres, whichever elapses first.

Our Verdict: Is the Ford Tourneo Worth it?

The Ford Tourneo is a great return to the people-mover segment from one of the best van makers on the planet.

    2025 ford tourneo front

While it doesn’t quite have the car-like refinement of the segment’s best, the Tourneo's generous wheelbase and acres of interior space make it a seriously family-friendly proposition for those looking for an extra name to add to their people mover shortlist.

The Tourneo's clever, flexible seating arrangement means you can configure a setup tailored to your families needs, while a solid infotainment and safety technology list means it fits right into the modern landscape.
