Vehicle overview
Many people don’t know that the Skoda Scala is based on the Volkswagen Polo, which means that it’s a seriously refined package on the road and offers many of the same features and abilities, at a considerable discount. Step inside and there’s plenty of legroom in the rear of the cabin and a particularly large 467L boot that gives many midsize SUVs a serious run for their money, meaning that small car buyers need not make too many, if any, sacrifices on the practicality front. The entry-level Scala comes powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine producing a modest 85kW of power and 200Nm of torque, while the Monte Carlo pushes out 110kW of power and 250Nm of torque from a slightly larger turbocharged three-pot. Atop its lengthy equipment list, there’s a long list of active safety tech thrown into the base model and the confidence of Skoda’s seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, the latter of which is impossible to match in a European manufacturer.
