What Engine Options are Available for the Volvo EX30?

Volvo has split its EX30 range into two camps.

There’s a pair of single-motor variants at the base of the lineup, known as the Single Motor Extended Plus and Ultra, while the Twin Performance Ultra receives an additional electric motor that dramatically increases power figures.

Single motor variants of the EX30 produce a very healthy 200kW of power and 343Nm of torque that is thrown to the rear wheels.

Upgrading to the EX30 Twin Performance increases these figures up to 315kW and 543Nm of torque while offering the added traction of an all-wheel drive system.

All members of the EX30 range come powered by a 69kWh nickel manganese cobalt battery pack which offers energy efficiency ratings of around 16.7kWh/100km on a combined cycle.

This means you can expect up to 460km of range in the Twin Performance, rising to a maximum of 480km of range in the Single Motor Extended Plus & Ultra.

  • Twin Performance Range: 460km

  • DC Fast Charging Speeds: 153kW

Is it Practical and Spacious?

Volvo has long been in the business of minimalist designs, and the EX30 carries on this traditional with a super sleek, spacious interior.

Up front, there’s a super clean aesthetic that positions a large, vertically-mounted central display flanked by a tall set of air vents.

In a common trend for electric vehicles, Volvo has done away with all physical buttons on the dashboard.

The company has also leaned into the use of recycled textiles throughout the interior, with a unique particle design made from recycled window frames spanning the length of the dashboard, as well as recycled textiles for the upholstery.

The end result is remarkably stylish, as we’ve come to expect from Volvo.

The company has also done well to utilise the added space provided by a bespoke EV platform, which means there’s a tonne of real estate in the front of the cabin.

Storage options include a tray for smartphones at the base of the dash, a large tray sitting beneath the arm rest, a clever retractable pair of cup holders and added storage inside the armrest itself, but no door bins.

As standard, the EX30 comes fitted with forward and reverse autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection and junction assist, lane-keep assist, front and rear-cross traffic alerts, a rear-view camera with parking sensors, adaptive cruise control and traffic sign detection.

While its competition might be fierce, the EX30 looks to stand confidently on its own feet as a stylish, practical and comfortable battery-electric company SUV.

Considering Volvo’s extremely competitive pricing for the base model, the EX30 looks set to play a key role in the company’s expansion in the EV space and is well worth a spot on your shortlist as a result.
